Sri Ramakrishna: It is not necessary for all to practice great austerity. But I went through great suffering. I used to lie on the ground with my head resting on a mound for a pillow. I hardly noticed the passing of the days. I only called on God and wept, “O Mother! O Mother!” (THE GOSPEL OF SRI RAMAKRISHNA, p.331.)
One would think that it would be easier for the Avatar, who starts out perfectly pure, unlike the rest of us. It must be that He showers His grace on us and thus doesn’t ask so much of frail humanity. Still, the image of him lying on the ground calling Mother is inspiring. I want to try to do this much. I want to call His name, thinking of His glories and praying to Him as ardently as I can. Here goes:
